
Mandarin - High Beginner 1

Course Description
This is a standard class that meets once per week for 8 consecutive weeks: October 23 – December 18 (*No class November 27th in recognition of the Thanksgiving holiday). For students who have completed the Beginner course or who have some prior experience in the language, this course builds upon the foundation begun in the previous level and focuses on expanding students’ vocabularies and knowledge of phrases. Each lesson will include reading and writing exercises accompanied by listening and speaking topics. Level: HSK1 / CEFR: A1 Topics: family, simple directions, compliments, Chinese holidays, food, travel, and seasons Objectives: use of “to have,” particle words, month/date/week/year/seasons vocabulary, use of “how” and “what,” measure words, and numbers 11-100, colors, expressing and asking for opinions, and describing personalities Textbook: New Concept Chinese 1, Lessons 11-20
