Tommy Huang

Mandarin Chinese Instructor

Tommy Huang was born in Shanghai, China and moved to the United States to pursue higher learning. He is a native Mandarin Chinese-speaker, obtained his bachelor’s degree in communications from UMass, and is currently a graduate student studying in California. During his time at UMass, he served as an intern and a freelance bilingual translator at Boston Public Schools (BPS). He also worked with the BPS Parent and Community Engagement Department to create culturally and linguistically engaging promotional videos for diverse families and students. All of these experiences eventually led him to teaching Chinese as a foreign language. As a Chinese language instructor, he enjoys incredible accessibility to teach and learn from the students. Aside from work, he enjoys the art of cinema. In his leisure time, he likes to take photos and create movies. He is actively involved in activities concerning the art of filmmaking. Tommy is passionate about both the linguistic and cultural development of his students and hopes to spread Chinese culture to a wider audience through the art of cinema.
